Rio de Janeiro: city with blue skies

According to the observations of meteorologists, the clearest and perfectly blue sky on the planet Earth is in Rio de Janeiro. The reason for this is either the azure waters of the Atlantic ocean, gently lapping at the foot of the city, or the huge forest expanses surrounding Rio de Janeiro (the largest forest in the world, among those located in the city, is located here), or perhaps it's all about the temperature regime, which for all the years of observation did not fall below + 6°C.
The place under the sun that Rio de Janeiro occupies is located at the southernmost latitude, on a strip of the Atlantic coast right at the Tropic of Capricorn. This means that the sun here at noon can rise to the Zenith, caressing the earth with the maximum angle of incidence of its rays.

Portuguese aviation pioneers Carlos Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral hurried to Arrive in such a 'warm place' in 1922. They made a sensational flight, starting from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro and for the first time in history flying (not without adventure) across the Atlantic.

The outstanding event was reflected on the stamps of Portugal.
And on a Portuguese 20 Escudo banknote issued in 1978.
In the future, ties with the 'hot city' strengthened, trade and economic relations began to develop, the city grew and gained status. Until 1960, Rio de Janeiro was the capital of Brazil, being the largest port in South America, the financial and construction center of the region.
A luxury city with a semi-official name 'Amazing' attracts the attention of millions of tourists. And the reason for this is not only in the ideal climate ('sun, air and water are our best friends' - this motto is perfect for Rio de Janeiro). Optimistic and cheerful cariocas (this is what city residents call themselves) set the pulse of the city. Well, the whole world knows Rio de Janeiro as the capital of a brilliant carnival, XXXI summer Olympic games, and the 2014 FIFA world Cup.
And where, if not in cheerful Rio de Janeiro, should world youth day be celebrated? It was here in July 2013 that a solemn celebration was held under the auspices of Pope Francis. A solemn mass with the participation of the Pontiff himself gathered hundreds of thousands of participants on the Atlantic coast.
And in honor of this event, in 2013, the Vatican issued a commemorative coin with a face value of 2 euros.
In the summer of 2016, Rio de Janeiro became the capital of the XXXI summer Olympic games. Where else, if not on the Sunny beach of Pontal, should you hold a race walking competition, for example?

The event was traditionally accompanied by the release of a mass of advertising products, including themed coins. Among them - cute girls with a face value of 1 Brazilian real, released in mass circulation.
Or gold collectible items with a nominal value of 10 Brazilian reals. Their weight is 4.4 grams of 900-grade precious metal.
Belgium and Ukraine also issued commemorative coins for a significant sporting event in denominations of 2 euros and 2 hryvnia, respectively,
China, Serbia, Ukraine, Belarus and many other countries have timed philatelic products to coincide with the Olympiad.
A recognizable symbol of Rio de Janeiro is the 38-meter statue of Christ the Redeemer. It was built over 9 years (1922-1931) mainly on the collected charity funds. As a result, the wonderful face of Christ stands on the top of mount Corcovado, as if blessing and protecting the city.

Today, the monument is one of the New seven wonders of the world, attracting the attention of not only millions of tourists from all over the world, but also heavenly forces. The fact is that twice, in 2014 and 2020, a lightning strike broke off pieces of the statue's fingers. At the moment, the authorities are already in full repair work.
In its original form, the statue of Christ the Redeemer can be seen on a commemorative 500-franc coin issued by the state of Cote d'It was released in 2008,
and also on the 10-dollar coin of the cook Islands,
and on postage stamps of Brazil.
In 1983, Rio de Janeiro hosted a significant event for all collectors stamps event - international philatelic exhibition. What dozens of copies of thematic stamps say.
And, of course, how not to remember the famous Brazilian carnival, which annually attracts millions of tourists to Rio de Janeiro! Bright and unique March every year lights the hearts of hundreds of thousands of participants and spectators with fire, admiring its grandiosity and overwhelming with incredible emotions.
The event is reflected in numismatics - 1 Fiji dollar on the reverse of the coin
and philately.
