Money Of Elisavetgrad

50 rubles 1920

Elisavetgrad is a beautiful and ancient County town in the Kherson region (1754): contemporaries called it 'little Paris' for the architectural style of the buildings.
Lenin's colleague, the Bolshevik Grigory Zinoviev, who gave the city its name from 1934 to 1939 - the city of Zinovievsk - and the writer Yuri Olesha, who wrote the fairy tale 'Three fat men' about the heir to tutti and the circus artist Suok, were born Here. The Revolution of 1917 could not but break the Patriarchal silence of the County town: the authorities in Moscow and Kiev were changing, and the financial leadership in the Center, whether it was the state Bank of the RSFSR or the derzhavna skarbnitsya U. N. R., forgot that the County cities needed to be periodically 'reinforced'with cash.
Power Elisavetgrad reacted accordingly – began to produce his own money, what was not original: half the country successfully developed a new business – the printing of legal tender, which up to 1917 even could not think.
The peculiarity of printing money in Elisavetgrad was that they stretched the issue of banknotes for a long period, periodically throwing into local circulation those denominations that were more in demand at that time.
They started in 1918 with a nominal value of 10 rubles: they printed city 'change tickets' for 8 million rubles. We were in a hurry: the date of the city's Foundation was printed on the tickets with an error-they wrote '1854' instead of '1754'.
Bad luck start: in pursuit of the circulation launched a ticket with a face value of 3 rubles in the amount of 1.5 million rubles, while the error in the date of Foundation of the city was repeated.
Next, in the same 1918, catapulted tickets face value of 1 ruble in the amount of 400 thousand rubles: the error with the date finally fixed, and the arms of the Russian Empire was replaced by the coat of arms with double-headed eagle without a crown of the epoch of the Provisional government, which at the time of issue did not exist.
Maybe the printed material would have been enough for a long time, but just at this dashing time, the city Treasury was successfully robbed several times by bandits - the local authorities had to turn on the printing press again.
In February 1919, tickets were printed with a face value of 5 rubles in the amount of 3 million rubles, and in March 1919, the turn came to a face value of 25 rubles in the amount of 22.5 million rubles – this is already under Soviet power.
From August 1919 to January 1920. Elisavetgrad was occupied by Denikin's VSUYUR, whose command printed its own money, giving Elisavetgrad issuers a break. But when the Bolsheviks returned to the city in early 1920, the elisavetgradites again took up the former-it was the turn of the nominal value of 50 rubles in the amount of 20 million rubles.
The last of the series of change tickets of Elisavetgrad has a simple design, while the denomination '50 rubles' on the bill is printed 9 (!) times – 4 times in numbers and 5 times in words: even an inattentive person will not confuse this banknote with bills of previous denominations.
My 50 rubles-from the 2nd series of the 1920 issue, with the letter B, No. 408958.
