VSYUR 10 000 rubles of the sample of 1919
The largest nominal value is for the besieged Crimea
I have noticed for a long time that the design of paper money unwittingly reflects the social atmosphere of the time when they were issued.
The civil war in Russia is a swing of the pendulum of military success: the white offensive – the red counteroffensive, hopes are replaced by disappointment – and everything ends with the departure of the remnants of the white Guard to Constantinople.
Banknotes of the Main Command of the Armed Forces of the South of Russia-they are like a mirror of the successes and failures of the Southern Front of the whites: first-Denikin, later-Wrangel.Banknotes with a nominal value of 10,000 rubles are the largest of the issued banknotes. They began to print them in Novorossiysk, but in April 1920 the printing house was hastily relocated to Feodosia, printing was quickly adjusted and they began to ship banknotes to Sevastopol on a boat with a characteristic name - 'Prytky'.
Against the background of the military failures of the white movement in 1920, the registration of a ticket with a nominal value of 10,000 rubles was significantly different from the ticket with a nominal value of 1,000 rubles that preceded it.
The thousand-ruble bill with the image of the Tsar Bell was popularly called 'bell' for a reason: it was designed in bright red, yellow and green tones, it looked optimistic, especially against the background of the military successes of General Yakov Alexandrovich Slashchev-Krymsky in 1919-1920.
The 10-thousand-dollar bill that followed it loses to the' bell 'both in color – it is a dull greenish-brown color, and even in size-202 mm x 101 mm-against 202 mm x 130 mm for the 'bell', which violated the canons of printing paper money familiar to Russians: a higher denomination was supposed to have a larger size.
Let's take a closer look at it.
On the front side on the left there is a 'shadow image' of St. George in a rhombus, but it is guessed only on very close examination.
On the back there are two women in military helmets: one with a spear, the other with a sword, both with a gloomy expression on their faces and both look like perched hens waiting to be moved from their perch.
On November 15, 1920, the Reds under the command of M. V. Frunze occupied Feodosia, and the printing of banknotes of the VSYUR was stopped even earlier – already in October 1920.
In total, from April to October 1920, 176 billion rubles worth of banknotes were printed in Feodosia, of which 138 billion rubles accounted for the nominal value of 10 thousand rubles – 78% of the issue.
In pieces, this is 13.8 million bills – even taking into account the inflation in the Crimea in 1920 and the ability of the Wrangelites to spend their salary at last, there is a decent reserve on their native land to replenish the collection of bonists of the XXI century.
My ticket YAL 090 is in perfect condition: it was not given to get into circulation.
