In numismatics, it is impossible to embrace the vast – there is simply not enough money, but it is impossible not to have a coin of the state in memory of a country that you have visited about 10 times.
A collectible coin with a face value of 2,000 pesetas was minted in Madrid with a circulation of 6.15 million to mark an important political event for the country - the Spanish presidency of the European Union: in 1995, the country led the process of European integration, which subsequently led to the transition to a single European currency - the euro.On the obverse is a portrait of King Juan Carlos I of Spain.
On the reverse – the building of the Royal Palace in Madrid.
Silver: 0.9250. Weight: 18 grams. Diameter: 33 mm. Edge: smooth.
As the currency of Spain, the peseta was introduced in 1869, and remained in circulation for 132 years.
In 2001, a commemorative silver coin was minted – the same denomination of 2000 pesetas-with the name ' Ultima Emision de la Peseta '('The last issue of the Peseta').
This meant that the euro came to Spain, and with it the centuries - old history of minting the national Spanish currency – the doubloon, escudo, real, peseta - ended.
How much can a collectible silver coin minted in 1995 with a face value of 2,000 pesetas cost today?
Googled: a Spanish online store offers to buy a similar coin in a Very Good condition for 27 euros, while the seller reports that:
'esta moneda de 2000 ptas constituye una inversion segura, ya que al interes para coleccionistas se une la posibilidad de cambriarla en cualquier momento en el Banco de Espana por 12 euros'
'this is an investment-with a guarantee, since in addition to selling this coin to collectors, you can exchange it at the Central Bank of Spain for 12 euros' (!)
Perhaps my Juan Carlos, born in 1995, is worth more - he is not Very Good, but UNC, he did not have time to go into circulation: in a plastic capsule, a coin from Barcelona went straight to Moscow.
